Does the mobile phone subscription work abroad?

This answer applies to Metropolia staff, not students.

Business trips to EU countries

Whether your subscription works in EU countries depends on your subscription type. If you don’t know whether you have an EU subscription, please check with the Helpdesk (contact details below). If you do not have an EU subscription, the Helpdesk will change your subscription type to an EU subscription.

Business trips outside the EU

If your trip is outside the EU, your phone bill can easily become very expensive. We recommend that you obtain a local prepaid subscription. It’s a good idea to check their availability before your trip, and often they can be ordered in advance by mail. Prepaid subscriptions can also often be purchased on site. Before your trip, you can also check whether prepaid subscriptions for your destination country are available for advance purchase and delivery by mail as physical SIM cards or as eSIMs (sold, for example, by https://www.airalo.com/fi/)

You may also use wireless networks provided by hotels or host organizations on your phone at your discretion, but a VPN connection must always be used with them to ensure information security.
