This guide applies to all individuals who have a metropolia.fi email address.

  1. Create a new email.

  2. Enter the recipient's email address in the address field.

  3. Add the character combination .s right after the email address.

  5. Send the message.

In this case, the default message settings are in use. The recipient can open the message link they receive for 30 days from the moment the message is sent.

How do I use the additional settings for secure email through the mail.metropolia.fi webmail service?

This guide applies to all individuals who have a metropolia.fi email address.

  1. Create a new email.
  2. Enter the email address of the recipient outside of Metropolia in the address field.
  3. Click on the Deltagon Sec@GW add-on icon.
  4. Select Message security from the dropdown menu.

  5. Select Letter from the dropdown menu.

  6. Choose Message Options from the top menu.

  7. Check the box that says Recipients can open the message only once if you'd like the message to be accessible just once.
  8. Specify the number of days in the Unopened message becomes unavailable in field if you want the message to be available for a certain time after sending. The default setting is 30 days.
  9. Specify the number of days in the Opened message becomes unavailable in field if you want the message to be accessible for a certain time after the first opening.
  10. Check the box that says Request a read receipt if you want to receive a confirmation when the recipient has opened the message.
  11. Click Apply.

  13. Send the email.

How do I use the registered letter security level secure email directly through the address field entry?

This guideline applies only to individuals who have been granted access to registered letter security level email.

At the registered letter security level, the recipient is additionally identified through SMS authentication. In practice, when the recipient opens the message, the system asks for a PIN code, which is simultaneously sent as a text message to the recipient's mobile phone number.

  1. Create a new email.

  2. Enter the recipient's email address in the address field.

  3. Add the character combination .[phone number].s right after the email address.

    If the recipient has a foreign mobile phone number, the format is as follows: 0035850123987.s, where 00 = international code; 358 = country code; 50123987 = phone number.


  4. Fill in the subject and message fields as usual.

  5. Send the message.



In this case, the message is sent with default settings. The recipient can open the received message link for 30 days from the time of sending. The recipient will receive a PIN code on their phone to open the message.
