If the "Strict deadline" option is checked in the assignment, even draft submissions will be automatically submitted on the submission date.
If the "Strict deadline" option is not selected, technically the assignment can be submitted or the submitted assignment can be edited later until the teacher has evaluated it. The teacher has the discretion to accept late submissions.
