Installing Microsoft Office on a Home Computer
Preliminaries
1. Accept Metropolia cloud service rules.
2. You can sign in to the download page in about two hours after accepting the cloud service rules.
Download and install on a Windows computer
These instruction do not apply to computers maintained by Metropolia
Do not use these instructions to install Office on a Metropolia computer. These instructions apply to installation on your home computer only. Microsoft Office is pre-installed on all Metropolia computers. You can find instructions on updating Microsoft Office 365 on Metropolia computers here. Instructions for updating Microsoft Office 2019 on Metropolia computers are here.
1. Start a web browser.
2. Browse to https://login.microsoftonline.com/
3. Enter you user name in the long format username@metropolia.fi (NOTICE: your username, not your email address)
4. You will be redirected to the Metropolia server.
5. Enter your password under the pre-filled username@metropolia.fi field.
6. Sign in.
7. Click on Install Office > Other install options.
8. Select language and bit option (32-bit or 64-bit).
9. Click on Install Office.
10. Click on Save file. If the service asks for a product key, click on Continuing contract and give your username in the long format username@metropolia.fi (not your email address but username).
IMPORTANT WARNING!!!
During the installation or Office sign-in you will be asked whether you want to Allow organization to manage your computer. Do not allow it. Make sure to uncheck the box in front of the question. Leaving the box checked may cause trouble to the functioning of your computer.
If you have forgotten to mark the checkbox, do the following:
- Go to Windows Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Access work or school.
- If you see the Metropolia account, remove it.
11. When the download has finished, start the file. How to start the file depends on the settings on your computer.
12. The setup program opens and guides you through the installation. After the setup is done you can use Office on your computer.
Downloading office on other than Windows computers
Outlook for iOS and Android use prevented!
For the time being, the use of Outlook for iOS and Android mobile app is prevented in the Metropolia email system because of a information security issue.
Your user account will be locked up if you try to sign in to the Metropolia email system using the app. If your user account is locked up you can reopen it using your netbanking credentials at https://password.metropolia.fi/
Apple iOS devices (iPad and iPhone)
1. If you do not have an Apple ID, you can create one at https://www.apple.com
2. Download the Office apps from Apple App Store.
Android devices (e.g., Samsung or Huawei tablets and smart phones)
1. If you do not have a Google account, you can create one at https://www.apple.com
2. Download Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps from Google Play.
The tablet operating system must be Android 4.4 (KitKat) or newer. Other requirements: 7" display, 1GB of memory, and an arm processor. Because of these requirements, some old Android tablets are not compatible with the apps.
Linux: There is no Linux version of Office.
Internet connection and the license
- Microsoft Office 365 checks the validity of your license every 30 days. The check is done online. If your internet connection is lost for more than 30 days, your license becomes invalid. If this happens, connect your computer to the internet and start Office 365.
You can install Office 365 Apps on max. 5 computers.
