Cisco NAM troubleshooting
This page is being retired
In Metropolia, we have discontinued the use of Cisco NAM (Network Access Manager). If your work laptop still has it, your updates might not be up to date. Please update your computer's operating system according to the instructions: Windows 10 Version Upgrade
No internet connection
If the laptop does not connect to network, try Network Repair. Usually network problems occur after the computer has been in sleep mode.
There are also situations, where restarting the computer does not fix the problem but Network Repair does.
Right-click on Cisco icon and select Network Repair. This should fix the connection problem.
Trouble connecting to a WiFi
Whenever you connect to a WiFi network, Cisco NAM remembers the network's encryption key. If the key was entered correctly, it does not have to be typed again. The computer reconnects to that network whenever the network can be reached. However, if the network's password changes or has been entered incorrectly, Cisco NAM remembers the wrong password. In that case you have to do the following to connect to the network.
1) Click on the button in the right side of Network panel:
2) Select Manage Networks
3) Select the network you are having trouble connecting.
4) Click on Remove button and then close the window
5) Try reconnecting to the network
VPN not connecting
Make sure that you are using the correct profile: Metropolia-StaffManaged is for staff and Metropolia-StudentManaged is for students.
If there is something else selected in the VPN menu, change the selection to the correct one.
The correct VPN profile should install automatically on the computer, if the computer has been connected to Metropolia's internal network.
VPN not connecting because of a certificate error
Helpdesk may have to do this:
1. Start certlm.msc.
2. Go to Personal → Certificates. Check if the opmputer certificate is expired: is the Expration date already passed? Leave certlm open:
3. If the certificate has expired, as in the picture above, connect with Cisco directly to vpn.metropolia.fi and log in.
4. Run gpupdate /force. The certificate Expiration date should update almost immediately in certlm.msc. If there is no connection to Domain controller, Helpdesk logs in to vpn.metropolia.fi with Cisco using their own username.
6. Try gpupdate /force again. No need to reboot the computer.
VPN not connecting because of Certificate validation error
The computer has no certificate at all.
1. Go to Personal → Certificates. Most likely there is not subdirectory at all:
2. Right-click on Personal, select All Tasks → Request New Certificate...:
3. Click on Next until you get to template selection. Select Computer:
4. Almost done:
5. Certificate is there:
Network: no networks and error "Configuration file missing..."
Download file configuration.xml
Copy the file from Donwloads to C:\ProgramData\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility\Network Access Manager\system. C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder, so copy/pastethe path from above to the path field in Resource Explorer, and press Enter.
Restart the computer.
Still not working?
Reboot the computer.
If the computer still does not work, Helpdesk take a look at it.
