Changes in the use of the Metropolia wireless network


The use of the Metropolia wireless network has changed.


The most important changes are:

  • a Metropolia user account or a guest account is needed to log in to the network
  • students, staff and guests have their own networks
  • Metropolia has joined an international Eduroam network roaming service
  • the old guest network "metropolia" was closed on September 30th 2011

Remote control application in computer labs (Lanschool)

A remote control and monitoring application (Lanschool) has been installed in almost all computer labs. Using the application, the instructor can control the view of all other computers in the classroom. Among other things, the application enables:

-sharing the instructor's Desktop to all or selected computers
-sharing a student's view to other students
-controlling web browsing etc.

Beginning on September 8, 2011, Toshiba multifunction devices will be available for students for fee-based copying and

printing. Scanning to e-mail and to a USB stick will also be possible on Toshiba devices.

The devices are located mostly in libraries and are available during library operating hours.

To be able to print and to make copies, a copy card is required. Copy cards are avaible in libraries.
Copy card prices can be found in IT Services wiki.
Balance remaining on old copy cards is refunded in sales points.

Staff printing

Staff can also use students' multifunction devices. Your personal Metropolia identity card case be used for logging

in.

Printing from computer classrooms to Toshiba multifunction devices

A print queue named "Toshiba virtual queue" can be selected when printing from student workstations in computer

classrooms.
Direct your print job to "Toshiba virtual queue" and print your document from the queue at any multifunction device

equiped with a RFID reader.
